Nibha Akireddy is a Bay Area-raised and San Francisco-based painter who explores the body as a vessel for storytelling. Her formal art training begins and ends with her childhood art classes — she draws from her personal experiences with vernacular art forms such as weightlifting, martial arts, music, film, and tattooing. Her paintings focus on bodily movement and the way skin holds and reflects light. Her recent work explores intersections between body and land, muscle and iron, gentleness and strength. Her work is, at its core, an exploration of the act of settling into body, whether that be through movement, setting, community, or heritage.
